Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born April 4th in 1972. Scott was raised by her grandmother as an sole daughter by her grandmother. Scott studied at the Philadelphia High School for Girls. After graduation, she attended Temple University. While working two part-time jobs, Scott was also a teacher in Temple University. Her goal was to be the high school's English teacher. After 3 years of working as teacher's assistant and studying her goal of becoming a high-school English teacher fell through. Following her first gigs singing at poetry events and eventually, she teamed up with Amir Quest Thompson of The Roots. The two ended up writing You Got Me together. During an Roots concert, she was spotted in the spotlight as an artist. After that, she began working with artists like Eric Benet Will Smith or Common. She was also able to learn about the arts of performing during the Broadway tour across Canada's musical Rent. She was the first artist signed with Hidden Beach Recordings.
